Red Bull Racing has dominated Formula 1 recently, led by Max Verstappen’s three consecutive World Drivers’ Championships. Yet, their ambitions extend beyond the race track. Introducing the RB17: a stunning track-only hypercar unveiled at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The RB17, crafted by Adrian Newey, the mastermind behind Max Verstappen’s winning F1 cars and the iconic Aston Martin Valkyrie. While the Valkyrie rules the road, the RB17 is a track-only beast. Both machines prioritize aerodynamics and powerful engines for unparalleled performance. Discover more about these cutting-edge creations.

Dive into the heart of the RB17: a masterpiece of engineering centered on a carbon-fiber monocoque. Powering this track-only marvel is a roaring mid-mounted 4.5-liter V-10 engine, screaming up to 15,000 rpm as a structural part of the chassis. Developed by Cosworth, this powerhouse delivers 1000 hp, augmented by a 200-hp electric motor, culminating in an astounding 1200 horsepower. Its seamless performance is channeled through a bespoke six-speed sequential gearbox, featuring Xtrac gears. Weighing under 1984 pounds, this two-seater is designed to dominate the track with its aerodynamic prowess and relentless power.

The RB17 from Red Bull isn’t just a hypercar; it’s a speed demon capable of matching F1 lap times and hitting over 217 mph. Its secret? Cutting-edge technology like active pushrod suspension with height and roll control at every corner. Partnering with Michelin, Red Bull has developed three tire compounds, including slicks with varying levels of grip and a treaded option. With hydraulically assisted power steering and carbon brakes on all wheels, the RB17 is engineered for unparalleled performance on and off the track.

Aerodynamics play a pivotal role in achieving F1-level lap times for the RB17. Inspired by the Valkyrie, its sleek bodywork conceals intricate channels and tunnels that streamline airflow. Unlike conventional hypercars, there’s no bulky rear wing atop the deck; instead, a low-sitting wing integrates with a substantial rear diffuser for enhanced performance. Both front and rear wings are equipped with active elements to optimize downforce, aiming for an impressive 3748 pounds at 150 mph. This design ensures the RB17 maintains agility and speed without compromising on aerodynamic efficiency.

The RB17’s journey began in late 2020, undergoing three distinct versions with different engines before finalization. Originally designed with an e-motor on the front axle for all-wheel drive, it evolved through meticulous development led by Adrian Newey. The interior is still in refinement, promising a user-friendly layout with ample physical controls—not just a stripped-down racer. The cabin features a slightly staggered passenger seat and offers storage space up front, along with room for helmets behind. This attention to detail ensures the RB17 blends cutting-edge performance with practical comfort for its drivers.

The RB17’s powertrain is currently undergoing final tuning on the dynamometer, gearing up for its anticipated on-track debut next summer. Red Bull Advanced Technologies plans to produce only 50 bespoke units of this exclusive hypercar. Each RB17 will be meticulously crafted, offering owners a unique driving experience and access to elite track days at renowned circuits worldwide. As reported by Top Gear, the price tag for the RB17 is set to exceed $6 million, reflecting its unrivaled performance and luxury in the hypercar market.
