The iconic BMW M3 GTR from Need for Speed™: Most Wanted is now a reality! To celebrate 30 years of Need for Speed, BMW M has brought the legendary racing car from the game to life. Built by BMW M Motorsport, this real-world version features the same livery from the game and will soon be on display at BMW Welt in Munich.
Racing games started as simple pixelated fun in the ’80s, but over the years, they’ve grown into a global phenomenon. From arcade classics to mobile apps, one game stands out: Need for Speed™. First released in 1994, it’s become a favorite among gamers and car lovers alike. This year, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, EA Games is throwing a big celebration – and BMW M is joining in on the excitement.
One of the most memorable games in the Need for Speed™ series is Most Wanted from 2005. A big reason for this is the legendary BMW M3 GTR driven by the villain, Razor. The car’s striking silver-blue design, powerful engine, and key role in the game’s story made it unforgettable for many players. To this day, it’s a symbol of gaming and pop culture. Now, BMW M has decided to pay tribute to this iconic car with a real-world version, built from carbon and aluminum, and packed with power under the hood.

The real-life version of the Need for Speed™ BMW M3 is a true racing legend. Built on the BMW M3 E46, this car was developed by BMW M Motorsport for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and quickly became a force to be reckoned with. In just 10 races, the BMW M3 GTR claimed victory 7 times, with driver Jörg Müller securing the GT class championship. BMW M Motorsport dominated the team standings, and BMW took home the manufacturers’ title in 2001. It was a short but spectacular run that made the M3 GTR a true icon on and off the track.
Need for Speed™: Most Wanted is nearly 20 years old, and now EA Games is launching a brand-new game: Need for Speed™ Unbound Vol. 9: Prepare for Lockdown. One of the big highlights? The return of the legendary BMW M3 GTR! Players can also look forward to even more BMW content, including the BMW S 1000 RR 2019 — the first-ever motorcycle to feature in a Need for Speed™ game.
If you’ve ever wanted to see the iconic BMW M3 GTR from Need for Speed™: Most Wanted up close, now’s your chance! The legendary car will be on display at BMW Welt in Munich starting November 27, 2024. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this real-world racing icon in person!
